Walnut Dinette River Table with Island Extension

Dinette tables are the perfect addition to breakfast nooks and kitchens because they provide an eat-in kitchen space for casual meals and entertaining.

This walnut dinette river table would eventually be installed next to a kitchen island, so we added an accent piece of walnut - delicately joined with a hand-cut bowtie joint - which wrapped beautifully around the side of the island cabinets.

The real challenge for this project was not designing and building an epoxy resin river table from scratch, but rather reworking a design from another maker and remaking a table that would satisfy our client.

The original resin pour was a vibrant, cobalt blue and was removed from the wood with CNC routing and planing. Some of the original blue resin can still be seen in the knot wood, sparkling under the darker, semi-translucent color.

The slabs were then rejoined from the underside with longer, robust flat metal ties and the void between the two pieces was encased in melamine for the new resin pour. The client chose a deep, umber brown tint for the resin to complement the rustic chic interior design of her hilltop home. Once the epoxy resin cured, the table was CNC planed and sanded to the final surface.

The walnut was finished with a wipe-on polyurethane + heavy oil finish and waxed to a satin sheen. We fitted the table with base of chunky rift sawn pine legs and pine stretchers stained to a deep ebony brown to compliment our client's kitchen color palette.

It brings us so much joy to see a happy client and to see our work adding charm and function to our client's home. For more projects at the Hilltop Home, check out this custom walk-in closet we constructed for the master bedroom.
